Sweep Frequency Response Analysis (SFRA) is receiving worldwide acclaim in assessing power transformer winding, core and clamping structure mechanical conditions. However, since SFRA results rely on measured frequency characteristics, interpretation of data demands experts with years of industry experience to identify the likelihood of the fault location. This paper aims to establish an interpretational scheme for SFRA results by developing a detailed lumped parameter transformer model. Through the model, a simulated environment of various winding failures such as short-circuit, axial and radial deformation is created and studied. The key contributions of this paper includes: influence of changes in the winding parameters at various degrees and their relationship to the frequency region on the measured frequency characteristics. Ultimately, an understanding of interpreting SFRA results.
