The Influence of Metal Foam ’s Density and Gas Concentration on Inhibition of Gas Blast by Metal Foam

Gas explosion in Coal mine is one of the major disasters that harm miners' life and safety, and the propagation of flame wave may cause secondary explosion or coal dust explosion.The current barrier material is often consumed after the explosion and unable to block the possible secondary explosion.metal foam is widely concerned because its high strength which can withstand the secondary impact.The paper mainly studies the suppression influence and destruction of metal foam by its density and gas concentration .Firstly, barrier performance experiment carry out by metal foam which thickness is 5cm, the average pore diameter is 30ppi, density range form 0.33g/cm3 to 0.54 g/cm3.The experimental results show that the block ability of explosion flame wave is better when the volume density of metal foam is heavier.The suppression efficiency is 85.45%、90.21%、93.64% when form metal’s density is 0.33g/cm3、0.41g/cm3、0.51g/cm3 respectively.At the same time, according to the analysis of metal foam thickness, shape variable and damaged condition, the material can be reused because its exterior appearance have no obvious change when its density is bigger than 0.5 g/cm3. Then gas concentration influence experiment is executed by three kinds of gas mixture 6%, 8%, 9.5%.The results show that the barrier effect of metal foam is small accompanied by gas concentration change. The blocking efficiency is better when the gas concentration is lower.When the metal foam setting in the pipeline is proper, it can suppress the explosion shock of various concentrations of gas.
