Evaluation method of rock burst risk based on equivalent surrounding rock strength

A large number of on-site investigations have shown that the rock burst risk varies greatly with the change of coal seam thickness. This study investigates the impact factors on rock burst risk, which take coal seam thickness into account, and the corresponding rock burst risk assessment method is constructed. According to the influence of coal seam thickness on the stress distribution of roadway surrounding rock, stress distribution models under different coal seam thicknesses are established. The main conclusions of this study are as follows: (1) Based on the range of surrounding rock caused by roadway excavation, a stress distribution model of roadway surrounding rock is set up, and the influence of coal seam thickness on rock burst risk is analyzed; (2) Proposed a new method for rock burst risk assessment, which is based on equivalent surrounding rock strength and coal seam bursting liability; (3) The rock burst risk assessment for a mine 3500 mining area shows that the result of considering coal seam thickness is more in line with the actual situation in the field, compare to without considering coal seam thickness. Therefore, the method with considering coal seam thickness is of great significance to evaluate the rock burst risk of coal seam.
