Experiment investigation on temperature variation during gas adsorption and desorption on coal surface

Temperature can obviously affect gas adsorption or desorption behavior. Meanwhile, the gas adsorption or desorption process may lead to temperature or heat variation. In order to reveal this phenomenon, the relationship between gas adsorption (and desorption) and temperature of three different coal samples was experimentally investigated under different temperature, particle size and equilibrium pressure. It’s found that gas adsorption volume decreased with temperature and the desorption rate increased when raising temperature. The rate of desorption temperature variation increased as the temperature rising. Additionally, the variation of equilibrium pressure and the gas adsorption volume were larger when the particle size was smaller. However, the desorption volume and the rate of desorption temperature increased when the particle size became larger. The gas adsorption volume of coal sample with high metamorphic grade was larger under same equilibrium pressure. The variation of temperature and its rate is larger at the same time. They were also larger when the equilibrium pressure increased during the gas desorption process.
