Prediction of coal and rock dynamic disasters in coal mines is a worldwide problem. But recently the research results show that infrasonic wave can be produced in the process of rock failure, and the infrasonic wave technique has been applied in the early-warning of the earthquake. Thus it provides a new research method for predicting the occurrence of coal and rock dynamic disasters. The objective of the paper is to study the infrasonic response characteristics during the process of the deformation and failure of loaded coal and rock. For this purpose, the theory analysis and experimental investigations are applied to comparatively analyzed the infrasonic wave response characteristics and AE signals during the process of deformation and failure of loaded coal and rock. The research results show that in the loading process, coal or rock samples can produce obvious infrasonic wave signals, and the infrasonic waveform is in good agreement with the stress-strain curve, and then the frequency of failure point mainly focus on the 0.5-16Hz, the frequency of other stages on the 0.5-5Hz. Additionally, the various rules of infrasonic wave characteristic parameters, including infrasonic wave amplitude values and its energy, are obtained in the loading process. Therefore, the research results provide theoretical foundation and technical support for the infrasonic wave monitoring and early warning for the coal and rock dynamic disasters.
