A combination of a skin effect opening switch (SEOS) and an auxiliary opening switch can be applied for pulsed power technology. The selection an auxiliary opening switch for the SEOS depends on task and load. For example, a Z-pinch load requires a pulsed power of ~1012 Watts and more. A generator of such level can be engineered by the combination of an SEOS and POS [1, 2].
There are tasks for which the pulsed power level is less than 1.0 TW. One such tasks is development of a narrowband and wideband device to radiate electromagnetic energy. Its construction consists of a source, a waveguide and a Hertzian dipole (magnetic or electric). [3]
High storage energy density allows integration of inductive energy storage and a radiator, and makes such devices capable to radiate electromagnetic energy more compactly and powerfully. Its radiation range can be variated from narrowband to wideband, which depends on the auxiliary opening switch and SEOS setup. In these cases, a transistor, fuse, and a semiconductor opening switch combined can be chosen as the auxiliary opening switch [4].
The device is engineered as an integration of both inductive storage and an electromagnetic radiator (Hertzian dipoles version). Its technical details are offered for consideration in this paper.
