Nuclear radiation effects on nanostructured semiconductors are concerned for the nano-detectors in space applications. In this paper, the neutron-irradiation effects on the ZnO nanowires and nanoflakes grown by chemical vapor transportation were investigated. After 10^15 n/cm^2 neutron irradiation, the ZnO nanowires maintained their structures with their diameter decreased, while the ZnO nanoflakes changed their structures into nanoparticles, which indicates that the ZnO nanowire structure is more stable than the nanoflake structure for the neutron irradiation. The neutron irradiation causes a red shift of the near band emission peak for the irradiated ZnO nanowires, which is probably due to the generation of shallow defects, and a blue shift for the ZnO nanoflakes, which is consistent with the structure transformation of the nanoflakes.
