An 8T global shutter pixel with extended output range for CMOS image sensor

an 8T global shutter pixel with extended output range is proposed. 8T pixel is an effective global shutter APS due to the high performance correlated double sampling, but owing to the pixel level sample-and-hold circuit, the output range is severely reduced. A new 8T global shutter pixel scheme is devised using only two switches outside of the pixel array. The proposed solution does not degrade the fill factor, and can be applied to improve the dynamic range of the imager. The new readout topology is described and experimental results for a 1024 × 1024 8T photodiode pixel array are given.
