Discussions On The Application Of Pipe Bursting Method In Pipeline Rehabilitation
Pipe bursting method, trenchless technology, ground displacement, soil conditions
Draft Pending
Trenchless pipe replacement, or pipe bursting, is a construction method used for replacing existing and deteriorated underground pipelines with a totally new pipe of equal or greater diameter. It is a sustainable and cost-efficient pipeline replacement method, compared with the conventional open trench activities which can result in noise, traffic disruptions, environmental impacts etc. In recent years, the use of trenchless pipe replacement has grown significantly in China. This paper provides discussion on several key technical problems in pipe bursting operations including ground displacement, soil conditions, scratch of new pipe and pull force analysis. The results from this work should help managers and engineers in planning successful pipe bursting items and assessing risk. To gain some insight into the pipe bursting, both basic mechanism and installation procedure of this trenchless process are introduced briefly.
