The micro-scale real-time detection of the material’s lattice structure under shock compression and its evolution laws are important for astrophysics, inertial confinement fusion, material science, and defense industry. The nanosecond high-power laser facility, the Shenguang-II, can drive shock wave to obtain a high pressure material state and can simultaneously provide X-ray diffraction diagnostics. Preliminary experiments had captured transient X-ray diffraction signals for both single crystal and polycrystalline materials, which paved the way for extending our understanding of the kinetics of phase transition and material response to shock compression. The wide-angle X-ray diffraction was carried out to record the signals of the single crystal, while the Debye-Scherrer method was adopted for the polycrystalline materials.
