As a 2D material, the layered lattice structure of Cr2Ge2Te6 plays a very important role in its magnetic and thermoelectric properties. High pressure is an efficient and active tool to control material structures and the electronic and magnetic properties
Despite numerous efforts following of the properties of Cr2Ge2Te6, experiments of structure and properties under pressure is still absent.
Here we combine experimental and theoretical calculations to investigate the structure evolution, electronic properties, vibrational properties and optical responses of Cr2Ge2Te6 under pressure. Cr2Ge2Te6 undergoes structural transformation which is represented by the unusual compression behavior. The multiple experimental results are discussed in connection with our theoretical calculations. The structural transition is attributed to the enhanced intra- and inter-layer interactions by First-principles calculations.
Our results stimulate research interest towards this kind of materials on other aspects under pressure which provide further insight.
