Using a full-dimensional Monte Carlo classical ensemble method, we investigate frustrated double ionization (FDI) of Ar with linearly polarized laser pulses covering a wide range of wavelength. We find that the mechanism of FDI at the short wavelength is different from that of the long wavelength. For the short wavelength, both electrons are bounded after recollision. Then one electron often emits before the field peak but the other emits after the field peak and as a result, the former escapes successfully but the latter bound by the coulomb field at the end of the laser pulse. For the long wavelength, one electron often obtains relatively high energy but the other electron often obtains relatively low energy just after recollision resulting in asymmetric energy sharing between the two electrons. Then the lower energy electron firstly emits via recollision excitation with subsequent ionization channel and bound at the end of the laser pulse .
