Ionic liquids are also called “designer solvents” and fulfill a wide range of specific needs. Phase behavior is a fundamental physical issue for potential application, thus the research on phase transition of ionic liquids is essential in industrial processes. And, the reactivity triggered by high pressure can give rise to a new class of materials, which is not achieved under normal conditions. This peculiar kind of reactivity could lead to the development of new or alternative synthetic routes to achieve polymerization of ionic liquids. For deep understanding the reaction pathway, combination with Raman, IR spectra and diffraction measurements have been carried out to character the final products. And high pressure reaction mechanism and the crystalline structure were analyzed in details. The results provided an important experimental reference for developing novel fragmentation chain transfer polymerization of room temperature ionic liquid by the high pressure method.
