Power transformer is a key equipment in power grids, whose reliability directly affects the safety of power system. The defect of transformer core or windings can increase losses and lead to transformer heating, affecting its stable operation. The no-load loss of transformer reflects the status of iron core and windings. Generally, it is measured through off-line no-load test, which is difficult to implement in the field. This paper presents the design and application of a more effective on-site measurement method of transformer no-load loss based on Internet of Things. Grid voltage is used as the power source in no-load test. No-load current is measured by a customized current sensor unit. It can work at high potential. The current and voltage are triggered synchronously by signals from the GPS module. Furthermore, the data are transmitted wirelessly, which is proved that the on-site measuring system based on Internet of Things is feasible.
