Overview of Building Information Modeling and Technologies Used in Construction Safety Management

Nowadays safety management is one of the arenas that has witnessed dramatic changes since technologies were introduced to each task of construction projects. The aim of this paper is to explore how BIM (Building Information Modeling) and cutting-edge technologies are used in construction safety management. To achieve the research goal, a thorough literature review is conducted. The paper describes four major points including: 1. How BIM and technologies can be integrated and utilized to manage construction safety? 2. How BIM and technologies are used by construction companies to manage safety? 3. What are the benefits of using BIM and technologies in construction safety management? What are the challenges in using BIM and technologies in construction safety management? In addition, the use of BIM and cutting-edge technologies by the U.S. construction companies are presented. This paper contributes to the body of knowledge as it addresses a new topic that has not been investigated before. It also enlightens the construction safety professionals by providing them with knowledge and information necessary to leverage the performance of construction safety management.
