There are various methods for calculating planned progress percentage and actual progress percentage in Micro Soft Project software. Considering the drawbacks of MS Project compared to other project planning and control software such as There are various methods for calculating planned progress percentage and actual progress percentage in Micro Soft Project software. Considering the drawbacks of MS Project compared to other project planning and control software such as Primavera software which is incapable of calculating planned progress percentage and actual progress percentage simultaneously in one file, the proposed method can compensate these shortcomings.
BCWS or Budgeted Cost of Work Scheduled shows the cost or benchmark of the base line application to status date. The specific attribute of this field is its dependence on the status date. In the order in which the BCWS value of the status changes, it is recalculated. This feature will cause this field to use planned progresses.
In this paper, firstly summarized history of the Earned Value Method will be mentioned, and the definitions and elementary concepts of this method are described, then the required steps to calculate the actual and planned progress percentage of the project in the Micro Soft Project software by using Earned Value Method, are explained.
