Alginate-based scaffolds have been extensively studied for bone and cartilage regeneration. Despite their suitable characteristics for Tissue Engineering applications, several additives have been proposed to improve their mechanical properties, including cellulose as one of the most promising ones. However, the evaluation of the effect of the manufacturing process on the properties of this type of structures remains relatively unknown. In this study, such a comparison has been carried out. Furthermore, a computational model has been developed to analyse the permeability of these structures.
