8th International SUT Technical Conference & 1st Symposium on Ship and Marine Engineering Equipment (SUT2020)

   September 19-21, 2019, the 8th International SUT (China) Technical Conference & Ship and Marine Engineering Equipment Symposium was held in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province. The meeting was organized by SUT China branch, Zhejiang Ocean University, Zhoushan Science and Technology Bureau, China University of Petroleum (Beijing), Ocean College of Zhejiang University, Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Zhejiang Natural Science Foundation Committee.

   With the theme of “Scientific and technological innovation as the carrier to strengthen the development and utilization of marine space”, the conference brought together many well-known experts in the field of Marine Engineering from the United Kingdom, Singapore, Brazil, Malaysia and more than 100 experts from 45 Chinese universities and enterprises. Participating companies include: China Petrochemical Corporation(Sinopec Group), Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Dalian University of Technology, Zhejiang University, South China University of Technology, Ocean University of China, West Lake University, China University of Petroleum (Beijing), China University of Petroleum (East China), Shengli College China University Of Petroleum , Sun Yat-Sen University, Shanghai Maritime University, China Ship Scientific Research Center, Jiaxing Nanyang Vocational and Technical College , Institute of Electrics of Chinese Academy of Sciences , etc.

   Participating experts focused on underwater technology, offshore oil and gas exploration and development equipment, intelligent manufacturing of offshore equipment, construction of ocean big data Platform and other key issues.

   SUT (China) Branch Chairman, Frank Lim hosted the opening ceremony in the morning of the 19th. Mr. Steve Hall, CEO of SUT, sent a blessing video to the conference. Prof. Xie Yonghe, Vice president of Zhejiang Ocean University, welcomed the attendees to the conference on behalf of the University in his opening speech. He introduced the new district of Zhoushan Islands and Zhejiang Ocean University to the attendees and expect all yield fruitful results through this conference.

   During the meeting,, Academician Cao Yaofeng, Professor Cui Weicheng of Westlake University, Ricky Thethi of Clarus Subsea Integrity(USA), Professor Frank Lim of 2H Offshore (UK), Professor Zhuo Xiaojun of Changsha Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy , Karan Kakar of 2H Offshore (Malaysia), Professor Chen Chaohe of South China University of Technology, Professor Shi Chen from China University of Petroleum (Beijing), Professor Teng Bin from Dalian University of Technology, Academician Oleh VLYCHAK from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Professor Pan Guang of Northwestern Polytechnical University, Professor Chen Ying of Zhejiang University, Professor Liu Huanwen and Professor Chen Zhengshou of Zhejiang Ocean University and other experts and scholars made wonderful presentations. In addition, another 38 participants delivered speeches in the sub-forum.

   At noon on September 19th, the SUT committee held an annual meeting to discuss and decide to set up the ‘Outstanding Student Presentation Award’. At the same time, the application for discussion confirmed that the 9th International SUT (China) Technical Conference will be hosted by the Changsha Research Institute Of Mining And Metallurgy in 2020.

   In the afternoon of September 21, the conference held the award and closing ceremony, hosted by the professor of Zhejiang Ocean University Bai Xinglan. Through the discussion of SUT academic committee, Zhang Jiayu, Zou Yuwen, Su Qi, Zhang Jin are granted the awards of ‘Outstanding Students Presentation’, and other student presentations were commended.

   After the conference, Frank Lim concluded that the meeting is very successful and in particular, more and more Chinese young people joined the marine scientific research team and have started playing an influence on the international stage; Second, the scale of the conference is large, the quality of the paper and speech is high and the academic environment is good; Third, the conference select excellent papers and will recommend to the SUT's Underwater Technology journal.
