ELECTROMAGNETIC EVALUATION OF WOOD DIELECTRIC PROPERTIES USING METAMATERIALS STRUCTURES

The paper describes the evaluation of the dielectric properties of dielectric material, using a metamaterial structure in front of the waveguide microwave sensor in order to increase the sensitivity of the sensor. The possibility to use a metamaterial structure for upgrading properties of classical waveguide sensor will be emphasized by numerical simulation of 2D metamaterial structure properties and experimental measurements to determine dielectric properties of wood materials. The mechanical properties of the alder sample are determined for comparison with Dynamic Mechanical Analysis, in order to validate the microwave approach.
