Since the 1980s, there has been significant interest in organometallic chemistry regarding the synthesis and investigation of compounds containing multiple bonding interactions between main group elements.
[1] Metallaphosphenes are of particular interest in this field, and they are constructed using phosphaketenes as appropriate precursors. These phosphaketenes are prepared through salt metathesis reactions involving Na(OCP)(dioxane)
2.5 and halogen-substituted metal complexes. When reacted with monovalent main group metal complexes, the relatively weak P-CO bond leads to the release of carbon monoxide, resulting in the formation of a M=P double bond.
