Beamforming is a key technology in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar for enhancing the desired signal and suppressing the interference signals. Uniform linear array (ULA) is arranged in conventional beamforming methods, which has disadvantages of small virtual aperture, low number of suppressed interference signals, and insufficient resolution due to the fewer virtual array elements. In this paper, a novel coprime array-based beamforming algorithm in monostatic MIMO radar is proposed. The use of coprime array can bring many virtual array elements and greatly increase the virtual aperture. The proposed beamforming algorithm is based on minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR) for multi-interference suppression. The simulation and comparison of the traditional ULA and the coprime array are carried out, which proves that the proposed algorithm has higher beam resolution, which can improve the performance of multi-interference suppression.
