Design and Simulation of Electrolytic Capacitor-less LED Driver

There is a large capacitance of electrolytic capacitor in general LED driver, which is used to keep the balance between AC-input and DC-output power. However, the life of electrolytic capacitor is much shorter than that of LED lighting equipment. In this paper, presenting an LED driving circuit without electrolytic capacitor. By setting compensation circuit to charge and discharge electricity to the compensation capacitor, which can reduce the capacitance of energy storage capacitor as much as possible, so that it can be replaced by other long-lifetime capacitors. Besides, a constant current control algorithm is designed to control the ripple of output current. The simulation models of LED and proposed driver circuit are built and the simulated results can corroborate the reliability and correctness of the proposed method.
