Axial Flux vs Transverse-Flux Linear Generators for Wave Energy Applications

The paper compares a novel type of the double-sided transverse-flux linear machine to the conventional rectangular four-sided axial flux machine. The machines are analyzed in 3D FEM and circuit software. Based on the results, the machines are compared in terms of power density, cogging torque per kW of power, shape of induced voltage waveform, power factor, and design complexity.
