Abstract
The motor terminal overvoltage due to the fast switching speed of SiC devices remains a challenge for SiC based motor drive systems. To deal with this challenge, this paper presents an analytical model based on frequency response spectrum and distributed cable parameter matrix for motor terminal overvoltage prediction and mitigation. First, the analysis and derivation of this model is elaborated combining two port network and wave equation. Second, based on this model, the procedure to predict the motor terminal overvoltage and design mitigation filters is discussed in detail. Third, a Saber simulation model of a SiC motor drive system with dv/dt filters is established to verify the proposed model. Finally, a simplified SiC motor drive is built based on commercial SiC power modules to further validate the proposed analytical model and compare the effectiveness of several dv/dt filters.
