Generally, there is a large deviation between the theoretical value and the experimental value of the lateral stiffness of the helical spring. Through the theoretical derivation and analysis of the formula recommended by standard BS EN13906-1, it was found that the calculation height of the helical spring had a great influence on its lateral stiffness. Meanwhile, the deviations of springs with different slenderness ratio calculated according to the standard were different. Under different vertical compression, the lateral stiffness of the spring was not a constant, showing a certain correlation. By introducing the calculated height and its correction conditions, and using the finite element method and test verification, it was shown that the lateral stiffness value calculated by this correction method was the closest to the test value, with the maximum deviation not exceeding 15%, which can meet the needs of engineering application.
