Folded laminated composite plates are widely used in aircraft fuselages, ship hulls, roofs and vehicle chassis, due to their advantages of lightweight, high stiffness and strength as well as high load carrying capacity. This paper investigates vibration characteristics of folded laminated composite plates with various fibre orientations excited by harmonic loading. The free and forced vibration analysis using numerical finite element method based on first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) are conducted to obtain the natural frequencies and steady-state dynamic responses, respectively. This proposed method is validated by comparing available results and extensively employed to investigate the vibration behaviour of cantilever folded laminated composite plates with various fibre orientations. The vibration behaviour of folded laminated composite plate with varying fold location is compared with that of flat laminated composite plate. The results reveal that the fold location and fibre orientations have significant effects on natural frequencies and forced vibration responses. The findings show that better dynamic designs with low vibration levels can be achieved by tailoring fibre orientations.
