Water-lubricated plain journal bearings are designed to work under heavy-load, low-speed conditions in the propulsion systems of large ships. In order to enable sufficient water-film formation, longitudinal or circumferential grooves are opened on the inner surface of the bearing in case of its shortage. The aim of present work is to identify characteristic parameters, for example the rotating speed, the coefficient of friction (COF), the load carrying capacity (LCC), the deformation of the bushing, for different types of axial grooves. The obtained results of bearings with different grooves types are compared with the classical, absolutely smooth surface bearings and the Gauss roughness surface bearings. It is found that, the maximum pressure and the load carrying capacity of the bearings with grooves with the transition arc are greater than the grooves without the transition arc. Among all the types of grooves, the triangular grooves (including the transition arc) perform the best, followed by the absolute smooth surface, followed by the triangular grooves (without the transition arc), followed by the Trapezoid grooves (including the transition arc), followed by the circular grooves(including the transition arc), followed by the circular grooves(without the transition arc), followed by the Trapezoid grooves (without the transition arc), the Trapezoid grooves (without the transition arc), followed by the rectangle grooves.
