Iridium (Ir) and Ir-based alloy materials are of great interest for high temperature, extreme environment and special applications, because Ir has a high melting point, low oxygen permeability, high chemical stability, excellent catalytic performance and superior oxidation resistance. In this conference, Ir and Ir-based alloy coatings including Ir-Ni, Ir-Co, Ir-Re and Ir-Re-Ni alloys were electroplated from aqueous solutions with the addition of sodium hexabromoiridate and iridium chloride. As the choice of the iridium (Ir) compound is crucial to obtain good Ir-based alloy coatings by electrodeposition. The effects of bath composition and electroplating variables on the chemical composition, surface morphology, the faraday efficiency, and phases of the alloy coatings were studied. At the same time, the electrochemical deposition mechanisms for Ir and Ir-based alloy coatings deposited from the bromo and chloride electrolyte system were investigated. The experimental results and future applications of Iridium and Iridium-based alloy coatings would be introduced.
