Abstract
Fengyun-4A (FY-4A) was the new generation geostationary meteorological satellite in China and has been launched successfully in December 2016. Geostationary Interferometric Infrared Sounder (GIIRS) onboard FY-4A is the first hyperspectral infrared sounder operating in the geostationary orbit. GIIRS has totally 1650 channels and produces high time resolution observations covering all China and part of the Western Pacific. This study aims to assimilate GIIRS observations with a regional numerical weather prediction model and to investigate its impact on real-world tropical cyclone (TC) analysis and forecast. The results show that the assimilation of GIIRS has a weak positive effect on the TC intensity forecast.
