Analysis of the biotic and abiotic pathway of humus formation during stimulated composting

The aim of this study was to comparative analysis the biotic and abiotic pathways of humus formation by stimulating composting process with monomolecular humus precursors. Stimulated composting systems were set up by inoculated mixed microbial liquid derived from composting practice and aquae sterilisata into sterilized and organic matter removed soil medium. Results showed that the humus formed rapidly in the simulated system. However, due to the impact of microbial inoculation, humus formation efficiency in biotic system was significantly lower than abiotic one. Humus precursors concentration was also decreased slowly in biotic process. Even so, humus precursors still promote humus formation in both biotic and abiotic ways. Given the obviously effects of microbe on humus formation, its community characteristics have been analyzed clearly. Bacteria communities composition and distribution were affected by different types of humus precursors. But core strains that promote humus formation were still similar during composting. According, by comparing and analyzing the differences of humus formation in biotic and abiotic pathways, we deeply analyzed the influence of microorganisms on humus formation to further reveal the formation mechanism of humus under the action of microorganisms.
