The paper presents an analysis of characteristics of wireless power transfer (WPT) systems running in parallel mode for electric vehicles. Firstly, the parallel model of two WPT systems with SS compensation network is established. Then, according to the model, the output power and efficiency of the parallel system are derived and analyzed. Finally, based on measured parameters, simulations are conducted to verify the analysis conclusion. Results demonstrate that, for the parallel system with SS compensation networks, the variation of mutual inductance and battery voltage will affect the output power and efficiency of the parallel system; the mutual inductance variation of one parallel unit do not affect the efficiency and output power of the other parallel units; when the efficiency of parallel units is different, the overall efficiency of the parallel system is between the efficiency of parallel units. And, the analysis in the paper can effectively calculate the output power of WPT systems in parallel mode.
