Misalignment is an unavoidable problem in the inductive power transfer (IPT) system. In order to improve the stable output capacity of the IPT system under extreme offset, an approach based on the clamp topology is proposed. With the analysis of the clamp topology, a double-solenoid quadrature pad (DSQP) consisting of the double-solenoid coil and the square quadrature coil is presented. With the cooperation of clamp topology and DSQP, the IPT system can operate adaptively to realize stable output within a wide misalignment range. The misalignment performance and the design method of the proposed DSQP are elaborated, and a design example is given. Finally, A 500W prototype is implemented to verify the validity of the proposed method. The experimental results show that the fluctuation of dc output voltage is lower than 15% within 320mm (80%) misalignment with system efficiency at least 91.89%.
