This paper presented a 2-pole-pairs novel line-start permanent magnet synchronous motors (LSPMSM) based on the theory of odd/even complementary magnetic fields. At its starting state, the stator winding will generate 1, 2 and 3 polar pairs of magnetic fields, and the resistance converted value of the rotor isostatic coil increases under the odd-pole-pairs magnetic field . To weaken starting current and no-load back electromotive force (emf) while increases the starting torque at the same time and subsequently starting ability will be strengthened. The winding coefficient, impedance parameters and no-load back emf of the prototype motor have been analyzed and calculated respectively, after which each harmonic T-s curve under starting condition was obtained. The results showed that the theory not only improved the starting capacity of the motor significantly, but also ensured that the steady-state running performance of the motor is the same as the conventional LSPMSM. At last, 2-D finite element method is used for simulation and the measurement of the locked-rotor torque of the prototype and the experiment of no-load starting, the validity of the design was verified effectively, which proved to be of great application value.
