In this paper, a developed model is presented to evaluate the utilization of energy storage for electrical power distribution. The method uses a simple algorithm to recognize the battery charge/discharge logic to boost self-consumption and save expense for the end-user. The input data was analyzed using the MATLAB platform employing an excel spreadsheet retrieved from the CREST Demand Model with various load profiles and energy management systems. The model improves the level of understanding for power consumption in the presence of photovoltaic panels and loads based on a typical Ugandan home. This study also provides a different perspective on the viability of importing/importing to the grid, which allows for either consumer credit or less tension on the national grid.
