Lightning stroke is the natural disaster that causes the most tripping accidents of transmission lines. Online monitoring and fault location for lightning stroke are of great significance to improving lightning protection capabilities. Based on theoretical analysis, simulation and experimental methods, this paper proposes a lightning stroke monitoring method for transmission lines based on a multi-parameter distributed optical fiber sensor. This method can simultaneously monitor temperature, vibration, and light polarization changes at various points along the OPGW. Theoretical simulations and experiments show that when OPGW is struck by lightning, it will not only cause changes in the polarization state of light, but also cause temperature rise and vibration at this point. By analyzing the characteristics of each physical parameter during a lightning stroke, multiple physical quantities can be used for lightning stroke incident determination and location, improve the accuracy of lightning monitoring
