Recoil of deepwater drilling riser system is a problem to be solved in offshore oil and gas engineering. PID control algorithm which widely applied in engineering is used for riser recoil control. A dynamic model of drilling riser/tensioner coupling system considering drilling mud discharge is established for riser recoil analysis. A PID controller is designed for the riser recoil control. Simulink is used for programming to realize simulation. Simulation results turn out that the designed PID controller can control the riser recoil response. The application of the designed controller can reduce the risk of accidents during riser recoil process.
