This study aims at proposing a numerical simulation method of tribocorrosion occurs during the service of anchor chains, where the mechano-electrochemical interaction can be considered in a simplified way. The damage evolution of anchor chain is governed by a stress-corrosion model and the Archard’s wear model, and the damage evolution is realized by a user defined UMESHMOTION subroutine. Based on such numerical method, the time-variant damage morphology of mooring chain can be obtained, and the remaining failure strength can be determined if necessary. Such method avoids the disadvantage of conventional method, where the stress-corrosion interaction is ignored. Some discussions on the simplification simulation method of tribocorrosion is also conducted, a systematic parametric studies are carried out and the comparison results are presented. Finally, a reverse design method is proposed, which can be used in the optimization design of marine anchor chain.
