Model test plays an important role in the development of Floating Wind Turbine (FWT) technology, in terms of validating and improving numerical tools, evaluating performance of FWT concepts, and revealing complicated FWT dynamics. The increasing interests in FWT technology have significantly stimulated the further developments of FWT model testing facilities and techniques. On this topic, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) has made great efforts, and has completed several representative FWT model test projects. Based on these practical experiences, we have extended the testing capability and improved the reliability of FWT model tests. In this paper, we present the advances of FWT model test techniques at SJTU, including integrated offshore environment simulation, intact FWT model design and construction, and FWT condition monitoring. Then, we draw some conclusions and recommendations for later reference.
