Durability of discrete waste BFRP needles reinforced seawater sea-sand concrete-filled GFRP tubular columns

The durability of previously proposed discrete waste BFRP needles reinforced seawater sea-sand concrete (SWSSC)-filled GFRP tubular short columns was investigated in this paper. The applicability of the proposed new type of column in marine environment was preliminarily evaluated. A total of four types of SWSSC were prepared, namely ordinary gravel aggregate SWSSC (SSGC), gravel aggregate SWSSC containing discrete BFRP needles (BNSSGC), coral aggregate SWSSC (SSCC), and coral aggregate SWSSC containing discrete BFRP needles (BNSSCC). The thickness of the GFRP tube was 3 mm. The specimens were uniformly immersed in artificially simulated seawater at room temperature, and three ages of 9 months, 12 months and 20 months were adopted. The variation of axial compressive and flexural properties of the short column were tested and analyzed. The test results showed that the performance of the unconfined column was severely degraded, while the performance of the GFRP tube wrapped short column had almost no obvious degradation.
