Abstract
Analyze the urban travel structure, explore the travel distance characteristics of various travel modes, and propose a mode split method based on the dominant transportation distance which conforms China's urban travel structure can effectively improve the efficiency and accuracy of the demand analysis of urban transport system. This paper firstly analyzes the travel distance distribution characteristics of residents in all modes and each mode by using the travel survey data in Pingdingshan. Then, the travel time value is calculated from the perspectives of travelers and the decision-maker. On this basis, the mode split rate model is constructed by introducing the theory of dominant transportation distance, then the travel time value is calculated and a nonlinear optimization model is established with the minimum travel time cost as the objective function. Finally, the solution is programmed with Python. The optimal and current mode split rates of each traffic mode are compared. This paper quantitatively analyzes the travel structure and the overall operating efficiency of the traffic system in small and medium-sized cities, and  provides theoretical support for the optimization of traffic mode structure and the formulation of traffic policy in small and medium-sized cities.
