Abstract
In order to study the role of carrier in anti-freeze material, through physical adsorption test, to confirm the optimum salted carrier. The influence of carrier on slow-release property of anti-freeze material and salt-releasing in asphalt mixture was investigated by conductivity test. The microstructure of anti-freeze material with or without carrier was observed with SEM. In addition, the road performance of asphalt mixture with or without carrier was compared. It reveals that materials A and B are suitable as salted carriers due to their strong storage and adsorption capacity for freezing point depressant. The slow-release property of anti-freeze material increases and the salt-releasing speed in asphalt mixture reduces with the addition of carrier. Different carriers have different effects on slow-release property of anti-freeze material and salt-releasing in asphalt mixture. Asphalt mixture without carrier has low water stability and does not meet the code requirements. The research shows that the carrier in anti-freeze material can enhance the durability of the anti-freeze pavement and can be used as a good filler to improve the road performance of the anti-freeze asphalt concrete.
