Abstract
Intercity carpooling is gradually emerging, which plays a positive role in relieving the pressure of intercity traffic during holidays. But how to promote the intercity carpooling during holidays is merely seen in the current research. In this paper, the data of RP/SP survey is used to analyze the travel behavior of intercity carpooling and the multinomial logit model is established to research the key factors affecting passengers' choice behavior of carpooling. The results show that the intercity carpooling passengers have obvious characteristics in travel distance, number of companions and process of finding carpooling vehicles. About the passengers' choice behavior of carpooling, gender and monthly income have significant influence on the choice of carpool A which means going directly to destination city, but not on the choice of carpool B which means stopping in the middle city to pick up other passengers. In addition, travel distance, stop time of carpool B, fee discount of carpool B and the departure date delay of railway all have significant influence on the choice of two carpooling modes.
