Abstract
The drop-off platform is a crucial infrastructure of the passenger terminal of the large-scale railway station. The design of its lane layout and traffic control directly influence the terminal capacity of attracting and transporting passengers. This paper focuses on exploring the influence of lane layout design of the drop-off platform on its performance with the aid of microscopic traffic simulation. Based on the field survey of some large-scale passenger terminals, it summarizes six critical elements of geometric design and traffic control of the platform, including lane change permit, parking area, pedestrian refugee island, pedestrian crosswalk, parking control and auxiliary lane. The method of orthogonal experiment design is used to decide the attribute combinations of these elements in the simulation experiments. The influences of the elements are investigated by analyzing the simulation results through the MANOVA. The main effects of each element and the interactive effects of multiple elements are identified in the analysis. Finally, it discusses how the conclusion extracted from the results be referring by the geometric design and traffic control of the drop-off platform in practice.
