The 20th and 21st joint COTA International Conference of Transportation Professionals (CICTP 2020-21)

This study investigates the disaster and transportation information required by evacuees during the pre-warning and response procedures of no-notice disasters. A questionnaire survey is conducted online and on-site to address the information content with which evacuees are most concerned and information access they prefer to use during the evacuation. Additionally, information access usage during daily life and disasters are compared. Individuals were found to maintain the habit of seeking news information but behave differently in transportation information collection under disasters. A structural equation model is built to explain the relationship between information content and access methods, and the impacts of the sociodemographic and psychological characteristics of participants on model performance are analyzed. This study addresses the importance of ensuring the effectiveness of disaster warning systems through improving and popularizing disaster evacuation training in the process of seeking and analyzing disaster and transportation information. Governmental and social organizations are advised to issue evacuation instructions for the public and to establish special departments to consider the accuracy of warning information and clarify rumors.
