Abstract
The primary objective of this study is to explore the traffic optimization measures to deal with the congestion due to a link disruption in network level. Both the traditional traffic optimization measures such as route guide and signal timing tuning and the novel traffic optimization measure of re-balance the traffic flow beyond transportation modes (the private transportation mode and public transportation mode). Based on the simulation data of Zurich network, the performance indexes of different measurements are evaluated. Both VISSIM performance indexes and the 3D-MFD indexes are used. The results show that after the occurrence of disruption, the network performance inevitably deteriorates. If traffic guidance measures are deployed utilizing VMS around the disrupted road to reroute the users, the network performance is better than without any measures. If both traffic guidance utilizing VMS and traffic information broadcast measures are applied, the network performance improves even more.
