Abstract
In Mainland China, only Beijing and Shanghai have city multi-airport system at present. A few other cities are constructing or planning a second airport in the city. In this paper, we analyze the performance of airport choice by passengers in Shanghai, to study the key factors which affect these choices. We find that the most important factors are the destination and frequency of the flight, and the second important factors are the price of air ticket and the ground accessibility of airport. Although the approval of regular destinations and schedules of the flights are under the administration of Civil Aviation Administration of China in some degree, passengers' choice of the airport dominates the market, and affects a lot to the operation strategy of airports and airlines. Eventually in the city multi-airport system, each single airport plays a clearly different role in transportation function, with competition and cooperation in the civil aviation markets.
