Abstract
Purpose
The iron core structure of large-diameter cup-shaped contacts determines the distribution of the axial magnetic field between the contacts in vacuum interruption.  The objective of this this paper is to determine the effect of the iron core structure on the distribution characteristics of the axial magnetic field under a large-diameter cup-shaped contacts. This investigation could contribute to the improvement of the breaking capability of contact system.
Researching methods
A 3D eddy current field parameters simulation model on large-diameter cup-shaped contacts will be built. Based on the finite element analysis method, the effect of the iron core structure on the distribution characteristics of the axial magnetic field at various current will be investigated. The diameter of the contacts will ranges from 120 to 160 mm. The contact plate material is CuCr50 (50% Cr). The iron core material is DT4. The current is from 40 kA to 50 kA rms, and current frequency is 50 Hz.
Results/discussion
The researching results conclude the characteristics of axial magnetic field include axial magnetic field strength, the axial magnetic field distribution, the phase shift time and so on. In the paper, the effect of the iron core structure on the distribution characteristics of the axial magnetic field will be discussed.
Conclusions
According to the study results, the effect of iron core structure on the distribution characteristics of axial magnetic field for the large-diameter cup-shaped contacts will be determined. This research will be contributing to the subsequent research, which is helpful for the optimization of the axial magnetic field by changing the parameters of the iron core structure.
