Research on Energy Consumption and Temperature of Suspension Clamp on Overhead Transmission Lines

Abstract
Temperature is an important factor limiting the current carrying capacity of high-voltage overhead transmission conductors. Cast iron suspension clamps are in the power frequency alternating magnetic field, and its eddy current loss dissipating as heat could lead to the increase of clamp temperature, which has impact on the conductor. To ensure the normal operation of the conductor, it is necessary to study energy consumption and temperature of clamps. The 3D (three-dimensional) physical model of suspension clamp and conductor is established, energy consumption and temperature of the clamp and conductor is calculated by using the finite element software to carry out the magnetic thermal coupling simulation of the model under different current conditions. The conductor current through test is designed, the energy consumption and temperature data of the clamp and conductor in steady state are recorded. The results show that: the magnetic thermal coupling simulation data of suspension clamp is very close to the test data, and the error is within 5%; when the conductor is supplied with the current carrying capacity numerical current, temperature of cast iron suspension clamp will be higher than 70 ℃, which is not conducive to the stable operation of the conductor.
