Abstract
The operation condition of SF6 circuit breaker used for capacitor banks is very severe due to its frequent switching. The arc erosion generated when the circuit breaker is switching will damage the electrical life of the circuit breaker, which is not conducive to the safe operation of the power grid. Therefore, it is urgent to study the opening and closing arc of sf6 circuit breaker used for capacitor banks. This paper establishes the opening and closing arc models of SF6 circuit breaker used for capacitor banks based on PSCAD/EMTDC, and the variation of arc energy and arc burning time under different working conditions is studied. The result shows that the arc energy and arc burning time of opening operation reach the maximum when the phase angle of opening is 90°, and the arc energy and arc burning time of closing operation reach the maximum and minimum respectively when the phase angle of closing is 95.4° and 0° respectively. Combined with the simulation result, the arc erosion of circuit breaker switching operation can be reduced by using phase selective switching technology.
