Abstract
Pulsed power technology has a wide range of applications in many fields, and different application requirements require different pulse source parameters. In biomedical applications, bipolar pulses can effectively attenuate muscle contractions during therapy process. This paper proposes a tunable bipolar pulse generator scheme based on inductive isolation. Each stage of circuit module contains 1 capacitor, 2 switches and 1 isolation transformer. The pulse source can output bipolar pulses, by controlling the turn-on sequence of the switch. Then, the isolation transformers can isolate potential changes during discharge. The results show that the pulse polarity, width, amplitude, rising and falling edge can be adjusted flexibly. The developed pulse generator can output the polarity adjustable pulse with an amplitude of 5 kV, a pulse width of 5 μs, a rising edge of 40 ns, and a total of 11 levels. This paper presented a new type of modular pulse generator with adjustable waveforms using inductive isolation. It can produce various types of pulses with flexible and adjustable parameters. It will be applied in many fields, such as biological medicine, plasma science and electromagnetic compatibility.
